Beef Shami Kabab

Fatema Nuruddin

This kabab is a staple in our Pakistani household. This is how my mom makes it, with just one spice blend. It's the perfect comforting meal to have with some hot chai <3

Ingredients:

Main Ingredients (to cook):

  • 1 cup channa dal
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 lb beef chuck
  • 2 small potato (150g)
  • 2 level TBSP Hara Masala
  • 1 tsp pink salt
  • 1 TBSP Sola Story 16 spice blend

Fresh Add-Ins & Assembly:

  • 1 Large chopped onion
  • 1 cup cilantro
  • 1/4 cup mint
  • 5 boiled eggs
  • 1 tsp pink salt
  • 2 Beaten eggs (as needed for dipping)
  • Panko Bread crumbs (as needed for coating)

Recipe:

  1. In a pressure cooker, combine the channa dal, beef chuck, water, potatoes, Hara Masala, pink salt, for 30 minutes.
  2. Once cooked, ensure most of the liquid has evaporated. Transfer to a pan and add The Sola Story 16-Spice Blend. Remove the beef and shred it finely. Mash the dal and potatoes together with the shredded beef until you have a thick, cohesive paste.
  3. Fold in chopped onion, cilantro, mint, boiled eggs and the additional tsp of pink salt
  4. Scoop out the mixture, flatten it slightly, and dip it in beaten eggs. Then, roll in panko bread crumbs.
  5. Heat a heavy-bottomed skillet over medium heat with a coating of oil. Pan-fry until golden brown.
  6. Enjoy with lemon and ketchup <3
